The Department of Arabic offers a comprehensive curriculum that goes beyond a foundational understanding of the language. The students are provided with a deep dive into Arabic linguistics, analyzing various aspects ranging from phonetics and morphology to sociolinguistics. This is complemented by an extensive exploration of historical and literary contexts, with a focus on a wide range of texts. This dual approach ensures students not only master the language but also gain a deep appreciation for the intellectual and artistic traditions of the Arab world. Beyond the theoretical, the department emphasizes practical skills, offering courses in translation and interpretation as well as communicative Arabic, which focuses on its use in professional contexts like journalism and diplomacy.

In addition to language proficiency, the department focuses on areas such as Qur’anic studies, Hadith, Fiqh, history, and contemporary Arab thought. Students are encouraged to develop critical thinking, research skills, and a deep appreciation of the rich heritage of the Arab-Islamic world.
