The Department of Geology is an academic unit within a Al-Azhar College of Arts and Science that focuses on the scientific study of the Earth. It explores the Earth's structure, composition, processes, and history through subjects such as Mineralogy, Petrology, Paleontology, Structural Geology, Stratigraphy, Geophysics, Geochemistry, and Environmental Geology. The department aims to understand Earth's past, present, and future by studying rocks, minerals, fossils, earthquakes, volcanoes, and natural resources. It often offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs and engages in research, fieldwork, and laboratory analysis to support academic and societal needs related to natural hazards, resource management, and environmental conservation.

The Department of Geology was established in the year 2021 with the vision of promoting excellence in Earth science education . Over the years, the department has grown into a center of academic excellence, offering undergraduate programme.


Infrastructure and Facilities

The department is well-equipped with modern classrooms, laboratories, and specialized equipment for geological studies, including Museum with Fossil and Mineral Collections.

Fieldwork is an integral part of the curriculum, enabling students to gain hands-on experience in geological mapping, surveying, and sampling techniques.


Remote sensing and GIS applications in Earth sciences

The department collaborates with reputed institutions such as GSI, CWRDM and other universities.
